The Story
The gown that names the line.
The Riviera is the namesake. A heavy ivory silk satin, sleeveless, closed high at the throat and falling in a deep cowl across the back. The dress reads as cover from the front and as bare back from behind.
The line itself comes from the coast — closed to the road, open to the sea. The dress holds that. We thought, when the line had ten gowns, the last of them should not be named for a place or a thing but for the whole.
The cowl is set on the body in the third fitting, then sewn down by hand with a fine bias binding so it sits against the spine without drooping. A single covered hook at the high neck. No zip — the cowl gives in.
It is the gown for the woman who knows the room before she enters it.
